A Big, Colorful Painting Class

Workshop Description

"It feels good to push paint around. Building on that simple pleasure and listening carefully to your eye, you can learn about color, design and art history while making big beautiful paintings.", says Paul.

Painting can be intimidating to the new as well as the seasoned painter. This workshop is designed to introduce, or re-inspire, the love of making art which can later be applied to your own choice of media. Working in tempera paint, students can just stay focused on the simple pleasure of pushing paint around on paper. By doing a quantity of paintings, students will learn to experiment and build their skills. The whole approach can be as childlike or as sophisticated as the student wants to make it. The paintings will be done on large 3' by 3' pieces of butcher paper and will each take about 1- 11/2 hours to do. Students will do 3-5 paintings a day. Many examples of paintings - from Leonardo to Van Gogh to De Kooning - will be viewed during the instruction.

"What else to say? Well, after finishing her painting, one young student once said to me, 'That was fun.' Then she paused and said, 'That was funner than fun.' Hopefully, it will be funner than fun for all."

All levels welcomed. Ages 14 - adult.
9AM to 4PM Basic supplies and lunch are included.
$265* per workshop - $20 discount for registrations before May 1

Registration Form Open as of 6/2/06
