Patty Drake has found photography to be a compelling and stimulating interest for many years. In 2002 she enrolled in the Rocky Mountain School of Photography Summer Intensive program in Missoula, Montana. Studying and mastering photographic skills with such exceptional teachers as Neil Chaput de Saintongue, David Middleton, Craig Tanner, and Elizabeth Stone resulted in Patty's retirement from teaching elementary school. She was then able to pursue photography professionally. More at www.pattydrake.com

2006 Summer Workshops at Hummingbird Patty Drake - July 14-16 “Creating One-of-a-Kind Photo Art” Workshop Description With a plethora of photographic images bombarding us every day it is hard to imagine making images that are uniquely our own, but here is a workshop that will allow you to do just that! Patty will bring all the equipment and materials you need to transform your own slides, prints or digital images into expressive one-of a kind art. A detailed outline for the three days is posted below. All levels of experience will enjoy this class. Materials are provided for the basic projects, with an opportunity to purchase more if you wish. Workshop Outline Friday will involve direct instruction in basic Polaroid creative techniques. Practice of these skills will follow with participants using slides or prints that they have brought to the class. Individual help will be available to insure that students achieve success. The day will end with a group question and answer period and a sharing of discoveries. Saturday morning participants will meet in historic Jacksonville for instruction on how to successfully shoot images that will work well with the Polaroid techniques. The students may then explore Jacksonville individually or with the instructor to shoot images that will be used in the advanced skills projects on Sunday. The opportunities for shooting will vary from historic buildings, antiques, flowers, and local scenes to detailed close-up shots. A provided lunch will be picnic-style at the local museum. A film processing “run” will be made for those participants who have shot slide or print film. The film will be delivered in time for the Sunday session. Sunday will begin with instruction and discussion on advanced techniques using the Polaroid processes. Participants will then use their images to create montage, collage, and other alternative projects. There will be handmade papers, fabrics, ephemera, and other supplies to use for creating final products. The class will close with a sharing of work produced during the workshop.
