Patty Drake has found photography to be a compelling and stimulating interest for many years. In 2002 she enrolled in the Rocky Mountain School of Photography Summer Intensive program in Missoula, Montana. Studying and mastering photographic skills with such exceptional teachers as Neil Chaput de Saintongue, David Middleton, Craig Tanner, and Elizabeth Stone resulted in Patty's retirement from teaching elementary school. She was then able to pursue photography professionally.
Patty Drake has exhibited her work at the Saintongue Gallery in Missoula, MT, the Rogue Gallery in Medford, OR, and Interiors at the Livery Stable also in Medford. She is presently showing her work in Art Du Jour Gallery in Medford, OR. Being a former teacher led naturally to becoming an instructor in the Polaroid Creative Uses workshops. She is currently working on stock photography, fine art creations, a children's book, and teaching Polaroid workshops.
Photography is the medium Patty uses to express her appreciation for all of the beauty that abounds even in the common and ordinary. Light, color, texture, and form all inspire her to photograph and create. The use of montage, special effects, and various Polaroid techniques allow her to expand the possibilities. Photography is her joy and passion.

Workshop Outline

Friday will involve direct instruction in basic Polaroid creative techniques. Practice of these skills will follow with participants using slides or prints that they have brought to the class. Individual help will be available to insure that students achieve success. The day will end with a group question and answer period and a sharing of discoveries.

Saturday morning participants will meet in historic Jacksonville for instruction on how to successfully shoot images that will work well with the Polaroid techniques. The students may then explore Jacksonville individually or with the instructor to shoot images that will be used in the advanced skills projects on Sunday. The opportunities for shooting will vary from historic buildings, antiques, flowers, and local scenes to detailed close-up shots. A provided lunch will be picnic-style at the local museum. A film processing “run” will be made for those participants who have shot slide or print film. The film will be delivered in time for the Sunday session.

The afternoon will be spent at the studio working on the Polaroid techniques. A printer will be available for printing from digital media cards.

Sunday will begin with instruction and discussion on advanced techniques using the Polaroid processes. Participants will then use their images to create montage, collage, and other alternative projects. There will be handmade papers, fabrics, ephemera, and other supplies to use for creating final products. The class will close with a sharing of work produced during the workshop.
